Blog - The Tour of Nikko, Kamakura and Hakone

I gave a two-day tour to my guests, a couple from France and their French-speaking guide, in the areas of Nikko, Kamakura and Hakone.

On the first day, we went to Nikko, in Tochigi Prefecture.

Luckily, we could see Mt. Fuji while driving there and my guests were extremely happy to see it. I took my guests to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the final resting place of the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which had ruled Japan for over 250 years.

Next, we went to the Tamozawa Imperial Villa and Lake Chuzenji. When we arrived, there was still snow on the ground, adding a feeling of winter beauty to the scene.

When we were walking back the Irohazaka Winding Road, a wiggling shadow suddenly caught our eyes. To our surprise, there were three wild monkeys! It was surprising even for me. The husband released the shutter many times so he could surely capture the best photo. This surprise turned out to be the absolute highlight of the trip. At the end of the first day, my guests said that it was a great ride and very comfortable. I was very glad to hear that.

Our plan for the second day was to go to Kamakura and Hakone. I picked up my guests at their hotel. They came out and said, “Bonjour Rina!” I was delighted that they remembered my name!

We started from Enkaku-ji Temple, and then headed to the Soba noodle restaurant for lunch. During the lunch, my guests told me that young female drivers were rare in France. They gave me many compliments about my driving and I was very grateful to hear them.

After we had lunch, I took my guests to the Tsuruoka Hachiman Shrine and Komachi-dori Street, which had many gift shops lining the street. My guests enjoyed shopping there and came back with their hands full of shopping bags. Next, we headed to see the Great Buddha of Kamakura, which is a huge bronze statue of the Buddha. After about twenty minutes, we left for Hakone, our final destination.

We finally arrived to the hotel where my guests were going to stay. I told my guests that this would be my last day seeing them. My guests said, “We’ll miss you, thank you for everything!” and gave me a gift. I was deeply moved by this unexpected surprise! I gave the husband a firm handshake, and the wife gave me French-style pecks on my cheeks. I thanked them again and wished them a great time on rest of their trip.
